What an AI expense tracker stores, and how to delete it
Written by the Clove Ai team. Published: . Updated: . Last verified:
Clove Ai, the expense tracker app, stores the expenses and settings you enter, never asks for bank logins, and sends text or images to an AI provider only when you turn AI on. You can download a copy of everything and delete your account from Settings. This post follows the privacy policy.
This is a plain-language summary of the Clove Ai Privacy Policy. It is not a replacement for it: if this post and the policy ever differ, the policy is the one that applies. We wrote it as the Clove Ai team, and the owner reviews it against the policy before publishing.

What is never collected
Clove Ai never asks for bank logins, card numbers, your precise location, contacts, a government ID or your date of birth, and it uses no advertising identifiers. It does not sell personal data. Product analytics is off until you opt in, and never includes the content of your records. The only location data is a rough place derived from your IP address at sign-in, used for the security email when a new device appears.
Controls you have
- AI features: off until you switch them on, and you can withdraw consent in Settings at any time.
- Camera and photo library: used only when you scan a receipt or set a profile photo.
- Microphone: requested only when you first tap the dictation button; everything else works without it.
- Notifications and analytics: both optional, and you can turn either off later.
What the AI sees, and when
AI features are off until you switch them on, and the server refuses AI requests while they are off. When on, the text you type into AI chat or plain-words entry, receipt images you scan and a summary of your spending are sent to a third-party AI provider to produce the answer. Clove Ai does not use them to train models, and asks its AI gateway to route only to providers that do not collect or train on prompts; each provider's own terms still apply and Clove Ai cannot control them. The AI chat history stays on your device, and receipt images are not stored by Clove Ai. Voice dictation uses your device's speech service; Clove Ai receives only the resulting text.
What we do not claim
Data is encrypted in transit. Records are stored on the database at the hosting provider in Indonesia, protected by access controls, and we do not promise encryption at rest. As the operator we are technically able to access your records, and we do so only to run, secure and support the service. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes.
Export and delete
- Export: in Settings, Download my data gives you a JSON copy of everything your account holds on the servers. A CSV of your expenses is also available.
- AI off: in Settings you can withdraw AI consent at any time. It stops further sending, but cannot recall content already processed.
- Delete: in Settings, delete your account. It asks for your password, and for a second factor if you use one, then removes the account and everything linked to it, including records, change history and sign-in history, immediately.
When you delete your account we also ask RevenueCat to delete your customer record. That is a best-effort request, and Google keeps its own purchase records under its own policy. A deleted account cannot be reopened; to use Clove Ai again you would create a new one. Payments are handled by Google Play, so you cancel a subscription in Google Play, separately from deleting the account.
Where Clove Ai is not the best fit
If you want records that even the operator cannot read, Clove Ai does not offer that, and Clove Ai makes no claim that records are hidden from the operator. If you want no data on any server, a fully offline app is a better fit. See Best AI expense tracker apps in 2026 and the FAQ.

Questions and answers
Does Clove Ai read my bank account?
No. Clove Ai never asks for bank logins, card numbers or account access. You bring the numbers in by typing, talking, scanning a receipt or importing a CSV.
Is the AI optional?
Yes. AI features are off until you turn them on, and nothing is sent to an AI provider before then. Manual entry, budgets, charts and reports keep working with AI off.
Does Clove Ai train AI on my data?
No. Clove Ai does not use your text or receipt images to train models. The AI provider's own terms still apply and Clove Ai cannot control them.
How do I delete my account?
In Settings, in the app, without emailing anyone. It permanently removes your account and everything in it and cannot be undone, so download your data first if you want a copy.
