Best AI expense tracker apps in 2026: six compared, with sources
Written by the Clove Ai team. Published: . Updated: . Last verified:
The right expense tracker depends on how you want to enter data. Bank-linked apps are hands-off, manual apps are simple, and AI-first apps like Clove Ai, the expense tracker app for Android, turn typed or spoken sentences and receipts into entries. Here is how six compare, with a source for every fact.
Clove Ai is an expense tracker app, and we are the team that makes it, so we are not a neutral judge. This post does not rank the apps. It lays out facts we read from each app's own website or store listing, says who each app suits, and says plainly where Clove Ai is the wrong choice. We read each page on 22 October 2026. Anything a page did not say is marked as not stated instead of guessed.
How we chose the apps
We picked apps that are widely installed on Android and likely to be used by readers in Indonesia and other English-speaking countries: Money Lover, Money Manager, Wallet by BudgetBakers, Spendee and YNAB, next to Clove Ai. We left out apps whose own pages we could not read or whose prices we could not pin down. Money Manager here means the app from Realbyte, not the many other apps with a similar name.

An optional Data Sync Service subscription is $2.49 a month or $19.99 a year | A free tier plus Premium in monthly, yearly and lifetime plans. Plus $1.99 a month or $14.99 a year. Premium $5.99 a month or $35.99 a year. The page notes prices may differ by country | $14.99 a month or $109 a year |

Who each app is best for
- Clove Ai: people on Android who want to log by typing, talking or scanning a receipt, and want one number for how the pay cycle is going. It has no bank connection and no free tier.
- Money Lover: people who want a free app with a one-time Premium and optional bank linking. Its App Store listing describes typing a sentence for AI to fill the amount and category, scanning receipts, and Indonesian as one of 29 languages.
- Money Manager: people who like a plain, manual ledger with double-entry bookkeeping and who are fine with ads in the free version. The free version is limited to 15 assets.
- Wallet by BudgetBakers: people who want bank-fed tracking, a web app and many languages. Its website says it connects to over 15,000 banks, but does not state prices; we did not check which banks work in Indonesia.
- Spendee: people who want bank sync on a free plan, a 7-day trial on every plan and an AI receipt scanner. We could not confirm Indonesian language support.
- YNAB: people in the United States, Canada, the UK and the EU who want bank import and a long trial and accept $14.99 a month or $109 a year. Its App Store listing shows English only.
How to choose
Start with how you want to get data in. If you want it to arrive by itself from your bank, choose an app with a bank connection that works in your country; that rules out Clove Ai. If you prefer to keep bank logins out of an app, choose one without a bank connection and pick the fastest way to enter a line: typing a sentence, talking, scanning, or a form. The guide on choosing an expense tracker walks through this, and expense tracking without a bank connection covers the trade-off.
Then look at price over a year. Clove Ai is $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year, so a year costs $29.99 on the yearly plan or $35.88 if you pay monthly. A one-time purchase, such as Money Lover Premium at $19.99, costs less after the first year or two. A free tier costs nothing but is limited, and the free versions we read carry ads or caps. Whether the difference is worth it is the subject of is a paid expense tracker worth it.
Where Clove Ai is not the best fit
- You want transactions to flow in from your bank automatically. Clove Ai never connects to a bank.
- You use an iPhone. Clove Ai is on Android, with a web app on the same account; there is no iPhone app yet.
- You want a free app. Clove Ai is paid only, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan.
- You prefer to pay once. Money Lover and Money Manager list one-time purchases; Clove Ai is a subscription.

Questions and answers
Which expense tracker app is best?
There is no single best one. Choose by how you want to enter data, which platform you use, your budget and whether the app supports your language. This post lists sourced facts so you can decide.
Is there a free AI expense tracker?
Some apps have a free tier and some have AI features, but we only state what each app's own pages say. Spendee lists a free Basic plan and an AI receipt scanner, and Money Lover is free with a paid Premium. Clove Ai is paid only.
Does Clove Ai connect to my bank?
No. Clove Ai never asks for bank logins or card numbers. You add spending by typing, talking, scanning a receipt, or importing a CSV your bank exported.
How current are the facts in this comparison?
Every fact shows the date we read the source page, 22 October 2026 for this version. We re-check each quarter, and a test in our code fails when a fact is older than 120 days.
