Clove Ai vs Money Lover: what actually differs

Bars of different heights standing for two expense tracker apps being compared

Clove Ai, the expense tracker app for Android, and Money Lover both turn typed sentences and receipts into entries. The real differences are money and connections: Money Lover is free with ads, offers a one-time Premium and an optional bank link, while Clove Ai is subscription-only with no bank connection.

Money Lover is a popular expense tracker on Android, and its App Store listing now describes AI entry and receipt scanning, so it is a direct competitor to Clove Ai. We are the Clove Ai team, so read this with that in mind. We read each page on 22 October 2026.

What is the same

Both apps let you type a short line such as "buy textbooks" with an amount and have the app fill in the category, both scan receipts, both handle several currencies and both list Indonesian. If those are your only needs, either can do the job and the price and platform will decide.

What differs

  • Price model. Money Lover is free with ads; its Premium is listed at $19.99 as a one-time purchase and bank linking is a separate subscription from $2.49 a month. Clove Ai is $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year, everything included.
  • Bank connection. Money Lover offers one as a paid add-on and its App Store listing names Indonesia among supported countries. Clove Ai has none, by design.
  • Platforms. Money Lover lists Android and iOS apps. Clove Ai is Android plus a web app on the same account.
  • A pay-cycle score. Clove Ai shows a Cashflow Score and daily rings built around your payday. We did not see an equivalent on the Money Lover pages we checked, which is a statement about those pages, not about the whole app.

What a year costs

On the yearly plan Clove Ai costs $29.99 for the first year and $59.98 over two years. A one-time $19.99 Premium costs $19.99 whatever the time, so Money Lover is cheaper unless you also pay for bank linking at $2.49 a month. The trial matters less than the model: Clove Ai has a 7-day trial on the yearly plan, and Money Lover's pages we checked do not state a trial.

Who each is best for

  • Money Lover suits you if you want a free start, an iPhone app, or automatic bank updates in a supported country, and you prefer to pay once.
  • Clove Ai suits you if you are on Android, do not want to connect a bank, and like a daily number and a pay-cycle view that tell you how the month is going.

Where Clove Ai is not the best fit

Clove Ai is paid only, Android only for now, and has no bank connection. If any of those is a deal breaker, Money Lover is the better fit. There is also a switching cost: moving your history means exporting from Money Lover (its Play listing lists export to Google Sheets as a Premium feature) and importing the file into Clove Ai, which reads CSV files and shows every row before it saves anything.
