Is a paid expense tracker worth it?

Bars of different heights standing for the yearly cost of different expense tracker apps

A paid expense tracker is worth it if you will log every week and the app saves you time or money you would otherwise lose. Clove Ai, the expense tracker app, is paid only: $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year, with a 7-day trial on the yearly plan. If you will not log, nothing is worth paying for.

The honest answer depends on you more than on the app. We are the team behind Clove Ai, which is paid only, so we have a stake in this question. The facts about other apps come from their own pages, read on 22 October 2026.

What free apps ask in return

Free is not always free of cost. From the pages we read, the usual trades are ads, limits and paid add-ons. Money Manager is free with ads and a limit of 15 assets. Spendee has a free Basic plan limited to one cash wallet and one budget. Money Lover is free with ads and sells Premium. None of that is a flaw; it is how those apps pay for themselves.

A break-even sum

Take Clove Ai at $29.99 a year. That is about $2.50 a month. If tracking catches one forgotten subscription, one duplicate charge or one month where you stop overspending, it can cover its own cost. If it does not change what you do, it will not. Paying monthly costs $35.88 over twelve months, $5.89 more than the yearly plan.

What you pay for in Clove Ai

One subscription includes everything with no limits: AI chat, plain-words entry, receipt scanning, budgets, goals, reports and export. There are no tiers, no message counters and no ads. You buy it in the Android app through Google Play, which shows the price in your currency, and you cancel in Google Play. If you stop, the app locks but your data stays; you can still sign in, download a copy and delete your account.

Who should stay free

  • You track a handful of expenses a month and a spreadsheet or a free app is enough.
  • You do not want a subscription at all. Money Lover and Money Manager list one-time purchases instead.
  • You want bank-fed tracking on a free plan: Spendee lists bank sync on every plan including Basic.
  • You are on an iPhone. Clove Ai has no iPhone app yet.

Who may find paying worthwhile

People who want to log by sentence, voice or photo instead of forms, who want one daily number for the pay cycle, and who prefer an app with no ads and no data selling. If that sounds like you, the 7-day trial on the yearly plan lets you test it; cancel at least 24 hours before it ends in Google Play and you are not charged.

Where Clove Ai is not the best fit

Clove Ai is paid only, Android and web only for now, and has no bank connection. For other options see Best AI expense tracker apps in 2026 and Clove Ai vs Money Lover, or the guide on choosing an expense tracker.

Decide with the trial: get Clove Ai on Google Play or read the home page.
